Prayer Tree

Our first prayer has been answered, we have a volunteer to act as co-ordinator!

Look out for details next week of how to join the Prayer Tree. Is God calling you to share in this kind of prayer ministry? All you need is a telephone, notebook, pencil and time to pray. Only the co-ordinator and the people on the prayer tree will know the names and phone numbers of the people on the prayer tree. All the prayer requests will come through the co-ordinator.

Open Church

The Church Council is happy for the church to be open one day each week for quiet, prayer and reflection.

We now need a group of volunteers to make this happen. When we get a group together we will decide which day of the week will be best and how long we will be open for – three hours in the middle of the day was suggested.

If you feel called to share in this ministry to the neighbourhood please let Diane know. You can ring or text her on 07763852256 or ring 90681859. When we have enough volunteers we will meet together to plan how we proceed.

Prayer Tree

At the congregation meeting on 16 February, a number of people expressed interest in being part of a “Prayer Tree”. This is a way of enabling a group of people to respond quickly to pray for particular people and situations. A prayer request is given to the co-ordinator, and at a set period of time every day the prayers are passed around the members of the “Prayer Tree”, until they come back to the co-ordinator and he/she knows everyone has received the request. The prayers remain on the tree for a week or until the particular need for prayer has passed. (Some can stay on for much longer if prayer is needed over a long period of time).

Each person on the tree needs a telephone, a note book, pencil and time to pray. Keep the note book near to the phone to write down prayer requests as they come in.
When you receive a request for prayer all you need to do is to note it and pass it on to the next person on the tree.

The tree normally receives request for prayer during a certain time of day, e.g between 6.00 & 9.00 in the evening.

Typical requests might be:
Please pray for Anna who is having surgery tomorrow.
Please pray for the Church Council as it meets tonight and wrestles with a difficult issue.
Information is kept to a minimum, we do not need to know lots of details in order to pray.

Each member of the “Prayer Tree” will receive a chart so they know the name and number of the person to ring. If the next person does not answer you ring the following person until you find someone at home. The last person rings the co-ordinator then he/she knows the prayer has been passed on. These calls are only to pass on prayer requests, they are not for chat!

To get this going we need someone to volunteer to act as a co-ordinator and then people who are happy to share in this ministry of prayer. When we get more than eight on the “Prayer Tree” we will plant another one.

As we explore the ways in which God is calling us to share in his mission we need to spend more and more time seeking God’s guidance and direction, these “Prayer Trees” will enable everyone quick and easy access to people who will give prayerful support not just in an emergencies but also for the ongoing work of the church.

Is God calling you to offer to co-ordinate the first “Prayer Tree”, please speak to Diane to find out more.
